This comedy series from Paramount, starring Nathan Lane, began September 22 on NBC and airs each Tuesday at 8:30pmET, between Mad About You and Just Shoot Me.
The premise of the show involves Nathan's character, Joe Pinoni, an opera singer who has lost his singing voice and must retire to the family winery in the Napa Valley (and then the hijinks begin). The fine supporting cast includes legendary actress Joan Plowright as the mother (Marie Pinoni) who attends funeral services as a hobby. Ms. Plowright, married to Lord Laurence Olivier from 1960 until his death in 1989, has played many diverse roles on stage and in film and television. Her prolific acting career spans more than 40 years and includes 45 films (Enchanted April, 100 Dalmations, Surviving Picasso, and Jane Eyre most recently). She has received two Golden Globe Awards and a Tony Award as well as an Oscar Nomination and a second Tony nomination. There is a great article about Ms. Plowright at the Independent Online site. Acclaimed actress Glenne Headly will play the sister (Francesca) of Nathan's character. She has had a respected career in film and TV.. Also in the cast is James Patrick Stuart, an experienced film and television actor with a famous father (Chad Stuart of the pop duo of the 60's, "Chad & Jeremy"). Stuart was a regular on All My Children for three years as the good/bad Will Cortlandt. Among several TV guest roles was a hilarious appearance on Seinfeld as Elaine's boyfriend who wouldn't share "his song" so it could be "their song" ("Desperado"). His films include Gettysburg, Pretty Woman and the "Babylon 5" TV movie In the Beginning. Rounding out the cast will be one of our favorites, Ernie Sabella, as Leo, and teen actor Trevor Fehrman as Headly's son. Look for stage actor Michael Emerson (Gross Indecency) to make a guest appearance in the pilot episode.
